The series of investigative stories received attention from viewers and from state lawmakers who are now considering changes to travel laws to protect local tax dollars.
Local elected officials claimed their lavish taxpayer funded sister city trips generated more than 2,500 jobs and $1.37 billion in commercial revenue. Nick investigated to see if these economic development claims were true (they weren’t).
Nick uncovered how the top prosecutor in Virginia’s most populous county is using a self deleting messaging app to conduct official business - leading to questions if the elected official is violating Virginia’s FOIA law.
